Meet the volunteers

Everyone loves the volunteers at the Borehamwood Foodbank. They are friendly, helpful and aways ready with an ear to listen.

Meet some of our volunteers

“I’ve always worked as a volunteer – at Citizens Advice Bureau, and more recently preparing events for older people in Radlett. I really enjoy volunteering roles where I can talk to people and hopefully brighten their day. So, my role – to welcome clients when they arrive at the Foodbank – is ideal. I love chatting to them to understand their situation and signpost them to the other support services they might find useful. It’s my favourite part of the week.”

“After I lost my husband, I needed something to get me out of the house. I’d worked in shops before and enjoyed the social aspect, but wanted to try something different. Joining the Foodbank is the best day’s work I’ve ever done.”

“I heard about the Foodbank from another volunteer and when I looked around, I knew this was the place for me and somewhere I could do some good. All of the volunteers were smiling and friendly, and making conversation with the clients who were so grateful for the food and the company.”

“I’ve always been involved in volunteering – from reading to children in schools, to helping at a horse riding school for the disabled. But when coronavirus hit, all of these opportunities were put on hold. I still wanted to volunteerand the foodbank gave me that opportunity. And, even as my other volunteering roles start back up, I’ll continue to volunteer at the foodbank.”

“Volunteering has always been part of my plan, but I never had the time. The I retired last year, which gave me that time. I started at the Foodbank a couple of months ago and I haven’t looked back. It’s a great operation and I’m glad to be part of the team, which does a fantastic job.”
