Despite the cost of living support package provided by the government, 40% of people on Universal Credit had to skip meals to survive the summer, and research from The Trussell Trust shows that 70% of people who received their first cost of living support payment have already had to spend it, and 2/3 of people on universal credit had to spend it on food.
As winter approaches, we’re concerned that this is only going to get worse.
We’re calling on our new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, to take urgent action to prevent people from being pushed towards food banks. We’re asking her to ensure our social security system provides people with enough support to afford the essentials.
Please stand with us. Send a message to your MP and urge them to do more to protect people on the lowest incomes.
